How old are you and where do you live?

I am 34 years young and live in Berlin (Germany).

Since when are you an artist?

I have probably always been an artist, I just did not know it myself. I have been drawing since I was a child. However, in the past I was only occasionally creative. Over time, in addition to drawing, other new creative techniques were added as well. Also, people gave me the feedback that I am creative. Because I have not studied art or anything like that, for a long time I could not acknowledge that I was already an artist.

Thanks to my sister, I was able to look backstage of the Friedrichstadt-Palast when I was young and I gained an insight into what happens in the background. I realised then that it fascinates me to see how other artists work. The special thing for me is that only the cooperation and exchange between all the people can create these wonderful shows. It made me understand that art is a collective process and that I want to be a part of something creative myself.

And then in 2021 there was this magical moment at one of the shows at the Friedrichstadt-Palast. Whenever I am there, I feel like I have arrived; like I am in exactly the right place. When I saw that show in 2021, I was pulled into these wonderful feelings again and had this realisation: The people on stage have these creative qualities and I am the same. So I am and always have been an artist. At the moment, fortunately, I have the freedeom to pursue my art. I would like to expand this in the future by, among other things, becoming a part of an artistic collective to exchange and create something great and fantastic.

What does it mean for you to be an artist?

For me, being an artist is an attitude to life or a trait. As a creative person, I am open to the impossible. Through my way, I open doors and show ways that are otherwise overlooked. I create new things that have never been there. Through art I can live out my creativity, which exists for me in all areas of life. It accompanies me in the most diverse solutions in everyday life. For me, creativity is not only doing, it is also a wealth of ideas.

What do you want to achieve with your art?

The internet is a great invention that allows us to create contacts around the world and to share knowledge quickly and easily. Unfortunately, most people would rather use it for consumption instead of trying it out themselves. My art is meant to inspire and encourage people to become active and creative themselves. I also want to show that anyone can be an artistic, even without having studied art before. I have not studied art; rather, I have learned most things autodidactically and through simply trying them out.

I think it is important that every person has the possibility to realise their full potential. For this reason, I make the creation of my artworks transparent. In general, I love to analyse, understand, implement and, above all, expand the way things work and how they are created. Disclosing my work processes is in no way meant to create imitations, instead it is meant to inspire others to discover themselves and their own path.

Every person has many abilities and resources that they themselves are often hardly aware of. Learning new things can show them that they can do more than they previously believed. A person who is at peace with themselves, who knows their strengths and weaknesses, does not need violence any kind in order to feel good. I think that violence is an expression of problems with oneself; it shows that this person is not well. To bring about change, it is important for me to show that every person is valuable and significant. I also want people to get to know themselves and to understand how they can be peaceful and kind with themselves and others. My art is meant to remind people of this, as well as a means of self-reflection and strengthening self-worth and joy in life. It should connect people and create happy moments.

What ideas do you have for the future?

As I want to accompany and support other people in strengthening their self-esteem and dissolving blocking thought processes, I will combine my art with coaching and meditation. I will create opportunities to participate. In doing so, I want to create art that can be acquired by all people.

It is important to me that the prejudices which still exist finally dissolve and develop into togetherness. Therefore, in the future I will include statements on the topic of LGBTQIA+ etc. in my art.

I hope that I can contribute a part to making the world a place for everyone to live fulfilled and with joy.

Where and why do you document your art and its creation?

My works are mostly created intuitively, without a real schedule and through trying out. Sometimes I wonder myself how exactly I created a piece of art. When I want to create a similar work, I have to look at how I did it the first time. I also tend to forget everything I have already created. In addition, I am asked more and more often how exactly I express myself creatively and whether I can explain how my artpieces come into being. That is why I had the idea of collecting my works in a digital place and recording the processes of creation. To motivate myself to actually do this and because I really wanted to know how to design websites, I combined it with a website. A good side effect and what I want to achieve now is that I can share this with people and perhaps encourage them to be creative. Therefore, I mainly publish my art and its creation on my website.

What is special about your art?

My art is a combination of rich detail, accuracy as well as the abstract, the imaginative. I particularly like to use (bright) colour elements and several different techniques in one work. In general, I do not like to limit myself to one thing or technique and I try out a wide variety of methods.

Where do you get your inspiration from?

From what surrounds me, like objects on the street or nature in general. In addition, topics that move me at the moment, and also coaching or meditation are a source of inspiration for me. Other artists also inspire me to become creative myself and to try out different or new methods.

Where do you prefer to work?

I like to work in places where I can be with people and at the same time live out my creativity in silence. For instance, I can completely switch off and get creative at parties with friends and good music. Or I like to work outdoors, in nature, where the sun is shining and I can hear the birds chirping. This would be on meandows in parks or in friends' gardens.

How did you get your artist name?

When I was a teenager, I registered on a website together with a friend. For that, an account name was needed, which we thought about together. It was supposed to be Hatcat. Though, because my English skills were not brilliant, it became Hadcat when I registered. Unfortunately, my friend, who has a good knowlegde of English, noticed this too late. The registration had already been done and the name remained.

Every now and then I thought about correcting the name. In the meantime, I decided to leave it as it is because to me it tells a story and has a meaning.

How do you describe yourself? What kind of feedback do you get?

At first sight, I am quiet and restrained. I prefer to stay in the background instead of being the centre of attention. However, when I am with friends, I can also get very active, impulsive and quite playful.

From others I hear that I have a strong personality, smile charmingly and authentically, am friendly and professional, love to have fun and am quite childlike. For other people, my unconditional helpfulness, high attentiveness and empathic nature seem to be new to them. I can teach others things they have not heard in this way before and therefore give them new insights.

Various personality tests showed that my personality corresponds to the INFJ-A type (Myers-Briggs Type Indicator - MBTI) and 5w4 type (Enneagram of Personality).

Who is your favourite artist?

Salvador Dali. For me, what is special about his artwork is that it is very accurate and at the same time fantasy-filled. I myself love to work in detail and like to focus on individual aspects. This has been criticised in my past and I was advised to work on a larger surface. The artworks of Salvador Dali, however, show me that my attention to detail is my kind of art.

Who are your favourite musicians?

Avril Lavigne, for one. I like her powerful songs and that she does not conform to the stereotypical image of women. It impresses me that she openly shows her personality.

Apart from that, I like to listen to songs with German lyrics that I can understand readily. Mark Forster's songs speak to me the most. His songs are both joyful and emotional; they are about processing events, packed in poetry and paired with unusual beats. He has an authenticity and down-to-earthness with which, I believe, he can touch many people.

Who inspires you in music?

Music helps me to find an access to my feelings, to express them and to process them, which is one reason why I am interested in many different instruments. One of my goals is to be able play guitar like Ed Sheeran. His way of playing, especially his plucking technique, is fascinating and memorable.

Karolina Protsenko inspires me to pick up a violin myself. It is impressive how much joy of life and fun she finds and can transport in her playing.

Ludovico Einaudi awakens in me the desire to sit down at the piano and compose my own songs. His pieces have a harmonic simplicity that has a calming and peaceful effect. They convey a sense of well-being and inner peace.

What are your favourite colours?

Blue as well as green. Since I was told as a child that I could only have one favourite colour, I switched to turquoise. This colour combines my two favourite colours. Otherwise, I find purple, yellow, grey and silver appealing. I am especially attracted to metallic, neon and noctilucent colours. I like to use these in my artwork.

What are your favourite animals?

I like tigers the most. I find it amazing how such a big animal can be so elegant and powerful at the same time. Wolves and eagles are my second favourite animals. For me, wolves symbolise the cohesion and community of a family, as well as gentleness and loveliness. Eagles fly extremely high, at the same time they can fly back to earth in a few seconds thanks to their sharp eyesight and far-reaching, focused perception. When I draw animals, it is mostly tigers.

What are your favourite fantasy animals?

Definitely dragons. I love dragons; their big wings, their shiny sheds and that they have a mind of their own. I like to use them as motifs in my works. I also find phoenixes interesting. For me they stand for elegance, fire and new beginnings.

What are your favourite books?

I love to lose myself in fantasy books as they inspire my creativity and take me into another reality. My favourite books include The Bartimaeus Sequence, The Inheritance Cycle, His Dark Materials and Percy Jackson and the Olympians series. One of my absolute favourite books is The Neverending Story by Michael Ende.

Otherwise, I love puzzles and riddles. That is why I think Sherlock Holmes is fantastic. I am impressed by how Arthur Conan Doyle was able to describe methods that were not usual in his time in such detail. The stories about Sherlock Holmes show how clever this man was.

I love learning. Without learning, my life would stagnate and would become boring overtime. That is why I often get my hands on specialist literature and I like to browse through it. These include, for example, coaching, music and art books.

What are your favourite films?

August Rush is about music; how music connects people and is part of our lives and the world. It is everywhere and beautiful. I especially like the different combinations of guitar and violin playing, rock and gospel singing and classical music. I love music and can not imagine life without it. Therefore, the representation of music in this film touches me very much.

The Ultimate Gift describes what life is really about. I like the calm way in which the film conveys through different tasks what the gifts of life are. The film illustrates my own attitude to life, that there is much more to life than money, power and career/status. That life gives us gifts in special ways that most people overlook and that we should be much more attentive to and grateful for them.

The Imitation Game is the perfect compilation of everything I love about films. On the one hand, it is very entertaining and has some funny scenes. On the other hand, it speaks about topics that are still associated with a lot of prejudice and sometimes discrimination in society and can thus open some people's eyes and contribute to more tolerance. The film tells the story of Alan Turing, whose significant role during the Second World War was previously undermined as a result of intolerance. He was an impressive, valuable and brilliant person and learning how his invention worked was incredibly enriching for me. The Imitation Game illuminates true events from a different perspective and thus provided me with new information and knowledge, which is something I value very much in films.

What do you do apart from your art?

Books accompany me through my life. I love the feeling of holding a book in my hand; in everyday life I mainly listen to audio books. I like to have pleasant sounds around me, so during my work processes I usually listen to audio books, music or listen to the life around me.

Another important part of my life is sport. Through movement I can let out built-up negative energy. Jumping fitness at the gym or playing basketball, football and table tennis in the park allows me to completely let off steam and recharge my positive energy. I also do a lot of my walking and take every opportunity to go for a walk in nature.

At the moment, I am experimenting with composing music myself and integrating it into my art, and I am also learning to play the guitar and keyboard.

What do you not like?

For me, honesty, authenticity and appreciation are a given, which is why people who lie and belittle or manipulate others make me sad. Deliberately chosen hostility, war and violence of any kind contradict my person, violate my trust and disappoint me.

Horror films; I have never been able to understand why people voluntarily watch films that scare them. I think there are enough frightening things in reality.

What does a perfect day look like for you?

I wake up with joy and motivation and can pursue my creativity all day. In the best case together with my dearest people.
